Medical Mission Sister, Dorothy Canary, 88, died May 11, 2013, at St. Joseph Manor, Meadowbrook. A Sister for 65 years, she served as an X-ray technician in hospitals in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Uganda. She also worked in pastoral ministry in her hometown parish in Roanoke; in other towns in Virginia and South Carolina; the Visiting Nurse Program at Holy Redeemer Hospital and at St. Cecilia's Parish, Fox Chase. Her Funeral Mass was 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at the Medical Mission Sisters Chapel, 8400 Pine Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19111, where gifts may be sent in her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas William Canary Sr. and Helen Sterne Canary; a brother, Thomas William Canary Jr.; and a sister, Mary Louise Canary.

Surviving are her sisters, Helen Canary Rowe (Mrs. James G. Rowe Sr.), of Roanoke and Sister Anna Marie Canary, Sisters of Charity, of Louisville, Ky.; also, a sister-in-law, Rita Hillas Canary, Roanoke; 15 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church in Roanoke at a later date.
