Duane Smith Obituary

Duane R. Smith, 55, of Roanoke, Va., died on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, as a result of complications from an alligator attack. He was a retired pirate who enjoyed gardening. Duane is predeceased by his father and mother, Snuffy and Betty; father-in-law and mother-inlaw, Mickey and May Howard; brother-in-law, Rick Howard; and hunting buddies, Rocky and Squeez. Duane is survived by his wife, Anne; and their precious daughters, Rebecca and Kerri. Also surviving are brothers, Ian and wife, Phyllis, and Collin Smith; aunts and uncles, Betty Gert Brisco, Don and Virginia Smith, Wayne and Shelby Smith, and Buzz and Cheryl Smith; brothers-inlaw, Edwin and wife, Martha, Howard, John Howard, Christopher and wife, Anne, Howard and sister-in-law, Karen Howard; and nieces and nephews, Shane, Alisha, Devon, Courtnae, Tristan, Edwin, Richard, Jonathon, Clint, Megan, Travis, Rachelle, Wendy, Denise, David and Charlotte. A Funeral Mass celebrating Duane's life will be conducted 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church by Monsignor Thomas Miller. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road with a Rosary and Prayer service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Mid-Atlantic Brittany Rescue. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory, 540-366-0707.
