Effie Burnette Obituary

Effie Mae Burnette, 97, of Galax, Va., passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010, in Twin County Regional Hospital. Effie was born on April 13, 1912, in Carroll County, Va., to W. Aaron and Larmie Goad Large. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman A. Burnette; and daughter, JoAnn Burnette Newman. Effie loved life, her family, flowers and her church family at Gladeville United Methodist Church where she was a member. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy G. and J.M. Frost, of Galax, Va., Beulah L. and Joseph W. Stacy Jr., of Roanoke, Va., Joyce L. and R. Ted Phillips, of Hillsville, Va.; grandchildren and spouses, Sandrina Stacy and Kevin Phipps, of Reston, Va., Dedra Stacy and William Kassy, of Falls Church, Va., Anthony Paul and Krissy Newman, of Pinellas Park, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Jessica JoAnn Newman, Jordan Tyler Newman, Daytona Rose Kassy and Indy Dalton Kassy; stepchildren and spouse, Catherine Ross Phillips McCraw and Matthew B. and Jessica Phillips; stepgreatgrandchildren, Olivia Catherine McCraw, William Wyatt McCraw and Carter Ted Phillips; several nieces and nephews. She leaves special friends, Martha and Joe Newman, Jelene Patton; Burlene Burnette, Sue Bond, Barbara Bond, Magen Bond, Kelly Patton and Alene Richardson. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Fiorini officiating. Burial will follow in the Jennings Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. A guestbook is available online at www.vaughangynn.com.
