Emma Ester Minucie Hodges

Emma Ester Minucie Hodges, 91, of Rocky Mount, Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 7, 2010, at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. Born on January 11, 1919, to Carlos Antonio and Ella Mae Smith Minucie, she was the youngest of eight children, and was preceded in death by her first husband, John W. Turner, of Floyd, Va.; and her husband of 51 years, Bentley Thomas Hodges, of Rocky Mount, Va. She is survived by three devoted children and their spouses, daughter, Patricia and Daniel Johnson, of Callaway, Va.; daughter, Carol and Robert Whitaker, of Rocky Mount; and son, Robbie and Beth Hodges, of Boones Mill, Va. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was blessed to be able to reside in her home due to the love and wonderful care and support of her companions, Lisa Ferguson, Keyona Montgomery, Sharon Bowen, Peggy Hodges, and Lorrie Lucas; and others too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Friday, April 9, 2010, from Rocky Mount Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will be receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday before the service.
