Frances Geneva Felts Steffey, 89, of Rural Retreat, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, at her home with her family by her side. She was a retired Wythe County teacher, having taught Home Economics for 30 years. After her retirement, she helped in management of Southwestern Equipment, the family business, in Rural Retreat. She was an active member of the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Wesleyan Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Steffey; a stepson, Gary A. Steffey; her parents, Charles C. and Pearl Fisher Felts; a brother, Edwin Felts; and a sister, Dorothy F. Archer.
She is survived by one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Kathy S. and Robert G. Williams, of Wytheville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred L. and Robin Steffey, of Roanoke, and C. Dale and Teresa Steffey, of Rural Retreat. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Lorri Beth W. Umberger and Patrick, of Wytheville, R. Kevin Williams and Megan, of Abingdon, Emily P. Steffey and Sarah K. Steffey, of Rural Retreat, Andrew K. Steffey and Jacob D. Steffey, of Roanoke, Makaela K. Umberger and Bailey C. Umberger, of Wytheville. A sister, Marie F. Ellis, of Richmond; and two brothers, Charles W. Felts and Joe L. Felts, both of Roanoke; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Felts, of Radford, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. Flowers will be appreciated. Those who prefer may make memorials to the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church or to St. Jude's Hospital. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat or at the residence at any time.
