Gary Spence Obituary

Gary Paul (Root) Spence, 55, of Radford, Va., and formerly of Floyd County, Va., passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010. He is survived by his mother and father, Zelma Thompson Spence and Paul Spence; brothers and sisters, Dwight Spence, Robert and Melissa Spence, Velva Lineback and Garry, and Reva Kay Spence; nephews and nieces, Joshua and Crystal, Jeremiah, Jonathan, Isaac and Chris, Stevie and Lowell Bowman, Jennifer Lineback, Amanda Altizer, and Jake Ryan Altizer; great-nephew and nieces, Kiley Bowman, Chloe and Corbin Spence; aunts and uncle, Nellie Thompson, Marvin Thompson, and Lois Alderman; and special extended family, Russell and Beth Meadows, Shannon, Rusty, Ryan, Tessa, Halee and Tori. Visitation will be held at Maberry Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Maberry Funeral Home with the Rev. Stan Hawkins officiating. Interment to follow at Jacksonville Cemetery. Gary "Root" was a 1974 graduate of Floyd County High School where he played football and ran track. He worked for HICO in Christiansburg for many years and was recently employed at Hubbell Lighting. He loved fishing, going to the Buffalo's track meets and football games, NASCAR, fixing computers, and spending time with his special extended family members; especially Shannon. Gary "Root" will be greatly missed by mother, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, and special extended family members; Russell and Beth Meadows, Shannon, Rusty, Ryan, Tessa, Halee, and Tori. I grew up with Gary but after school I ldidnt see him' i always wondered were he was. I am so sorry for the family. I remember him walking up the road and he had a strut. I'll never forget that walk. God bless the Spence family.

The Spence Family & The Meadows family is on my mind, in my thoughts, & prayers at the event of losing this irreplaceable man. I know you will get through this. You are a survivor.
