George Wayne Watson, 65, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. He was born in Richmond on November 4, 1947, son of the late Norman and Hazel Watson. His sister, Janice Floyd, also preceded him in death. Mr. Watson proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. He worked as a siding and window contractor for many years. He loved to fish, and would go every opportunity he could.

He is survived by beloved wife of 43 years, Kathy Watson; daughters, Melissa Proffitt and her husband, Rufus, Judith Sowers, Donna Balster, and her fiancÃ©, Raymond Fuentes, Sherrete Elmore and her husband, Charles; adopted daughter, Whitney Forrester; brother, Robert Watson, and his wife, Becky; sister, Judith Galbraith; grandchildren, Rufus Proffitt III and his wife, Vanessa, Brittany Pugh, Benjamin Proffitt, Tara Sowers, Cheyenne Watson, Hayden Sowers, Jessica Balster, Ashley Balster, Olivia Elmore; two stepgrandchildren, Chelsea Elmore, Blake Elmore; son-in-law, Henry Balster; numerous other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, October 14, 2013, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, the Rev. Gary Butcher will officiate. Committal service with Military Honors will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
The family will receive on Sunday, October 13, 2103 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, www.oakeys.com.
