Iona Green Ayers, 84, of Vinton, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Claude Green and Fannie Catherine Rowland Green, husband, Harold Moran Ayers, son, Gary Lee Compton, three sisters and one brother.

Mrs. Ayers was multi-talented, having written many plays and musical pieces, she was very devoted to her family and her church.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Collins and her husband, Ron, of Manassas; grandchildren, Laura, Brian, Scott, and Aaron Collins; nephews, Wayne Ayers and his wife, Ann, of Vinton, Curtis Ayers and his wife, Dreama, of Salem; niece, Janet Johnson, of Roanoke; and numerous other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Vinton Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. President R. Kevin Bohon will preside, with Bishop Jimmy Webber conducting. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. For those wishing to make memorials please consider the Vinton Rescue Squad.
