Isaac Baker Obituary

I.H. Baker, 90, husband of Sandra (Gum) Baker of 104 Smithleigh Circle, Staunton, Va., died on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, at his home. He was born on May 9, 1919, in Rockingham County. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his parents, Oda Rodeffer and Courtney Stuart Baker; and six brothers, Stuart D. Baker, Ivan J. Baker, Raymond R. Baker, Elvin J. Baker, Ira C. (Bud) Baker, and Warren L. (Jack) Baker. He co-founded Baker Brothers, Inc., an equipment dealership for J.I. Case Company, in Roanoke, Va., in 1944. In 1948, I.H. moved to Lexington to open a second store. In 1950, he opened a third store in Staunton. In addition to his wife of 28 years, survivors include two daughters, Betty Marker and her husband, Joseph, of Hamilton, Va., and Sharon Race and her husband, Stephen, of Manassas, Va.; and one son, William Isaac Baker, of Staunton. A private burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery in Churchville. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Staunton Church of the Brethren officiated by the Rev. Scott L. Duffey. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Staunton Church of the Brethren, 1615 North Coalter Street, Staunton, Va. 24401 or to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, Va. 22939. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.henryfuneralhome.net.
