James Bruce Galyen Jr.

James Bruce Galyen Jr., 61, a resident of Knoxville, Tenn., died on Sunday, April 4, 2010, at his home. He was born in Roanoke, Va., on July 13, 1948, to Helen Brown Galyen and the late James Bruce Galyen Sr., of Galax, Va. He is survived by his wife, Janet Walker Galyen; his mother, Helen Galyen, of Galax, Va.; his sister, Jan Cheryl Galyen Lingner, of Woodstock, Ga.; his daughter, Susan Galyen Deihl and husband, Joshua Deihl, of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Grayson, Cole, Emily, and Luke Deihl; stepdaughter, Kellie Agulia and husband, Thomas Agulia, of Palm City, Fla.; two step grandchildren, Kellen and Christina Parris; and one nephew, James Austin Galyen Lingner, of Atlanta, Ga. Jim graduated from Galax High School in 1966 and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he was a member of the Delta Pi Zeta Fraternity. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1971. From 1974 to 1976, Jim served as Director of Finance and Assistant City Manager for the City of Galax, then followed in his father's footsteps by joining the sales force of several furniture companies. Funeral services will be conducted at First United Methodist Church in Galax on Friday, April 9, 2010. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. with the funeral to follow immediately afterwards. Burial will be at Felts Memorial Cemetery following the funeral. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Oldtown Lodge #68 with Military Rites conducted by Grayson VFW Post #7726.
