James Edward Carpenter, 68, of Hollins, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013. He was born December 7, 1944, in Roanoke, Va. James was a 1963 graduate of Lucy Addison High School, 1971 graduate of Barber-Scotia College and a 1973 graduate of Georgia State University. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Van Carpenter; mother, Clara Brown Carpenter; and sisters, Carolyn Carpenter James and Eunice Carpenter Lee.
James leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 42 years, Stella McRae Carpenter; daughter, Cora Carpenter; son, Jason Carpenter; grandson, McRae Edward Carpenter; sister, Clara (Connie) Carpenter Lee; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at High Street Baptist Church with the Rev. J. R. Hughes officiating. Interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. An Omega Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
