James Byerly Obituary

James Warren Byerly, 90, of Fort Myers, Fla., and formerly of Covington, Va., and Lima, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice on Sunday, April 24, 2011. He was born on June 27, 1920, in Lima, Ohio, to Glen and Mary Byerly. He was very active in his church and enjoyed traveling, gardening, sailing, and playing bridge. Jim retired from Westvaco in Covington, Va., and moved to Southwest Florida with his former wife Jean L. Byerly (1925 2009). Jim is survived by his second wife, who was a childhood friend, Gloria Miller Byerly; sons, Alan Byerly, Steve (Neta) Byerly, David (Pat) Byerly, and Tom (Marilyn) Byerly; daughter, Karen (Temple) Kessinger; stepdaughters, Marsha (Bob) Burger, Muriah Miller; stepson, Mark (Sherry) Miller; grandchildren, Hilary Byerly, "T" Kessinger, Katie McNeil, and Jon Byerly; stepgrandchildren, Julie Craig, Brent Burger, and Delany and Jesse Miller; greatgrandchildren, Conner McNeil, Kali and Hannah Kessinger, Kaylen Byerly, Danielle Eades, McKinna Craig, and Mason and Karleigh Davis; and his brother, George Byerly. He is also preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Huber and Erma Harnisfager. A Memorial Service for the family will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Hope Hospice, 201 Wings Way, Lehigh Acres, Fla., with Chaplain Don Goodwin officiating. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health-Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908 in his memory.

Jim was always a good, kind and generous man to me and to Hilary. I've enjoyed knowing him and his fine family. He will be missed.
