James William (Iron) Daniel, 83, of Roanoke, went to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Born on October 21, 1929 in Salem, he was the sixth child of eight born to the late John William and Ruth Peters Daniel. He was also predeceased by siblings, Marie Daniel, Ruby Burnop, Lewis Daniel, Roberta Grubbs and Edith Hambrick. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Fizer Daniel. Also surviving are his two sons and their wives, Gary and Kathy Daniel, of Roanoke and Glenn and Nancy Daniel, of Troutville; and daughter, Brenda Daniel, of the home. He was "PaPa" to his two grandchildren, Michael James Daniel and wife, Teresa, of Cloverdale and John William Daniel, of Troutville; as well as a great-grandson, Devin Daniel; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Daniel, of Cloverdale; sister and brother-in-law Louise and Bill Wade, of Salem; brother, Marvin Daniel, of Salem; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Although unable to attend recently because of his health, he was a member of New Life Temple Christian Ministries Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road with the Rev. Walter Wood officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and from 6-8 at the funeral home.
