Joanne DeMaury Obituary

Joanne Hall DeMaury, 74, of Vinton, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 22, 2010. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. After her husband's retirement, she took a job working with the Roanoke City Public Schools serving as a school bus aide for special education children. With her husband as the bus driver, and she as the aide they were able to form a special bond with their riders. Together they re-enforced what the children had learned in their classrooms. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Andrew DeMaury; children, Michele DeMaury Janney and husband, William, of Daleville, Andy DeMaury and wife, Sherry, of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mark DeMaury and wife, Ann, of Troutville; grandchildren, Josh DeMaury, Marcie Janney, and Aundrea DeMeury; brother, Gary Wayne Hall, of Waldorf, Md.; brother-in-law, Ellis Lane, of Delbarton, W.Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews including Junie Shepherd and Butch Lane. The family offers a special thanks to the physicians, nurses, and entire staff on 7 South at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and especially Johnny Coleman of the dietary department for their many thoughtful deeds and acts of kindness during Joanne's illness. Also, a special thanks to friends too numerous to mention for their thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Salvation Army, 724 Dale Avenue, SE, Roanoke, Va. 24013. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by Elder Virgil Jamison, Elder Leonard Hubbard and Elder Jimmy Bryant. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.

Aunt Joanne was my grandmother Rilla's sister. Even though I've only seen her a handful of times in my life, she has always been my favorite. As a child, I was thrilled when she came to visit us in Texas! She was such a dear woman and so much fun to be with. & how I loved seeing her and grandmother laugh like little girls when they were together. Great memories of an extraordinary lady. She will always be missed and loved. Hugs to Uncle Sonny and all the family. Love from Texas, Jenny
