John Houchins Obituary

John Edward Houchins, of Roanoke, Va., passed away September 3, 2010. "Johnny" was the son of the late John W. Houchins and Leonie Shortt Houchins and stepson of the late Evelyn Howery Houchins. He was preceded in death by his brother, William R. Houchins. He is survived by his wife, Irene Roberson Houchins; his sisters-in law, Rebecca Houchins and her son, John W. Houchins, Nina and her husband, Wes Chesser, Frances Callaway, Rachel Snyder, and Margaret Roberson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Johnny was a veteran of the World War II Army Air Corps, 9th Air Force, serving in the European Theatre. He retired from the C&P Telephone Company after nearly 30 years of service and was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, September 6, 2010, at Oakey's North Chapel in Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Feeding America of Southwest Virginia, 1025 Electric Road, Salem, Va. 24153 or the Bradley Free Clinic, 1240 Third Street SW, Roanoke, Va. 24016.
