John Scruggs Obituary

John M. Scruggs, 83, of Chestnut Hill, Pa., passed away peacefully on April 21, 2010. Mr. Scruggs was a retired traffic engineer for the City of Philadelphia with over 40 years of service. He was appointed by Mayor Frank Rizzo and served as Streets Commissioner. He was a longtime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Germantown, a great supporter of the Virginia Tech "Hokies" and member of the alumni and a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was the beloved husband of Margaret "Peggy" (nee Marshall) Scruggs; brother of William (Connie) Scruggs and Edward (Barbara) Scruggs, all of Roanoke, Va.; and is survived by nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends in church Tuesday after 10:30 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mary Episcopal Church, 630 E. Cathedral Road (off Ridge Avenue). Fr. Thomas McClellan will officiate. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in John's name to St. Mary Episcopal Church.
