Joe Pugh, 79, died Friday May 3, 2013. He was born in Bedford on July 31, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Pugh; and his brothers-in-law, Bobby Custer and Grey Martin. He retired as the BMWE General Chairman with Norfolk and Southern Railroad in 1996. He was happiest when he was at the lake, and treasured his time fishing and playing cards with family and friends. He lived an amazing life full of joy and laughter. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice Pugh; his son, Joe and his children, Justin, Brandon, and Dana and their mother, Patti; his daughter, Laura Davidson and her children, JD Tyree (and his fiancÃ© Carrie Martin) and Logan Turner; son-in-law, Paul Davidson and his children, Jessica, Joe, and Stephen; his brothers-in-law, Dave Custer and wife, Rosie, Jimmy Custer and wife, Joanne; and sisters-in-law, Helen Martin and June Custer.
In his last days, he was surrounded by his wife; son; daughter; grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, and very special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He died at Lewis Gale Hospital from pancreatic cancer.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 5, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. on Monday May 6, 2013, at Longwood Cemetery in Bedford. Bill Moore, of Bedford Christian Church will officiate. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.
