Joseph Willis Woody III

Joseph Willis Woody III, 84, formerly of Rocky Mount, Va., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. He was a longtime member and Deacon Emeritus of Beulah Baptist Church. Mr. Woody was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Peggy Young Woody; his parents, Joseph Willis Woody Jr. and Alice Hutchinson Woody Slayton; and two sisters, Ruth Frith and Nadine Perdue. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph W. and Lynn Woody, David A. and Grace Woody; daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Bill Berger; four grandchildren, Kelly Leatherwood, Jonathan Woody, J.W. Woody V, and Sarah Woody; two greatgrandchildren, Ashlyn and Gavin Leatherwood; two brothers-in-law, William Perdue and Armstead (Will) Young; an aunt, Frances Hutchinson; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Thomas C. Siddle officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church, 4220 Sontag Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151 or to King's Grant Fellowship Fund, 350 King's Way Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112. The family acknowledges with deep appreciation the loving care provided by the staff of the King's Grant Retirement Community. His family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral & Cremation Service, Rocky Mount.
