June Basham Holcomb, of Roanoke, was born on June 4, 1912, and passed away at age 100, on Monday, January 21, 2013. She is rejoicing in Heaven now with her husband, Roy T. Holcomb; her parents, Kyle and Gay Basham; and her many wonderful friends who pre-deceased her. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Holcomb Fisher, of Salem; son, Tommy Holcomb, of Salem; granddaughter, Shannon Schrope and her husband, Mark Schrope, of Melbourne, Fla.; grandson, Gavin Fisher and his wife, Molly Fisher, of Spartanburg, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Caroline Schrope, Ryan Schrope, Nathan Schrope, Morgan Fisher and Luke Fisher; and nephew, Tim Taylor. She is also survived by her dear friend, Via Cupp; her close longtime friend, Jewel Sheere; close family friend, Glenn Englebert; and friends, Nikki Epperly and Michael Beckner.
If June touched your life, you know what a caring, giving and loving person she was. She adored children and her house was always the center of the neighborhood. Her gracious acts of love and kindness were felt by many people. She was known for her incredible cooking and her willingness to give to others sacrificially. Her family is thankful for all that she taught and gave them over so many years.
June was an active member of Raleigh Court Methodist Church, and, along with her husband, Roy, served as Youth Counselor.
Special thanks go to the good people at Carilion Hospice who helped out so much during her last days.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Evergreen Cemetery. The Reverend Jim Feringer will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Angels of Assisi, the SPCA, the League for Animal Protection, or to .
