June Asbury Obituary

June Wanise Asbury, 85, went to her heavenly home Thursday, April 22, 2010, with her loving daughter, Brenda Sluss, son-in-law, Orville, and grandson, Jeff, by her side. Born July 11, 1924, at Flag Pond, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Fred Crane and Frances Pate Crane Allen and stepdaughter of Andrew Allen. Mrs. Asbury has made her home in Christiansburg, Va. with her daughter, Brenda, in recent years, but was formerly of Bishop and Tazewell, Va. She was a former member of Alexander United Methodist Church at Bishop. Mrs. Asbury had a green thumb, enjoyed gardening, crocheting and quilting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Asbury; one son, Andrew Asbury; two sisters, Linnie Mae Lloyd and Geraldine Tuck; two brothers, Elmer Allen and J.W. Allen. Survivors include her loving daughter, Brenda Sluss and husband, Orville, of Christiansburg, Va.; one son, Roger Asbury, of Cottondale, Ala.; two sisters, Glenna Jenkins, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Thelma Callihan, of High Point, N.C.; two grandchildren, Jeff Sluss and wife, Jill, of Salem, Va., and Lynn Perkinson, of Charlotte, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Levi, Braeden and Aurelia Sluss; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Rev. Kenny Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010. The family would like to thank Heritage Hall Health Care, in Blacksburg, Va., for the professional care given Mrs. Asbury these last few months and by Southern Care Hospice Group of Roanoke these last few weeks.
