Kenneth Spraker Obituary

Kenneth L. Spraker, 82, formerly of Wytheville, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, in Newark, Ohio. He was born in Wythe County on November 17, 1926 to the late Clyde C. and Lottie K. Spraker. After his graduation in 1944 from Wytheville High School, Kenneth enlisted in the Army where he served in Korea. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he began what would become a life-long career with the Kroger Company. Kenneth was married in 1950 to his wife of 54 years, Millie, and they settled in Roanoke where Ken worked his way up from stock clerk to the position of Mid-Atlantic Grocery Merchandiser for the Kroger Company. After his retirement in 1987, Ken and Millie retired to a beautiful home on top of Sand Mountain near Wytheville where he resided there until 2005, at which time he relocated to Thornville, Ohio to be closer to his daughter. Kenneth was a member of AMVETS Post 51 in Thornville, the Roanoke Lakeland Masonic Lodge # 190 and the Roanoke Kazim Shriners organization. He was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Wytheville and maintained many close friends even after he moved to Ohio. Besides his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred F. Spraker, his younger sisters, Jean Funk and Lois Martin. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Richard Bergeron, of Thornville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Katherine (Todd) Dion, of Dublin, Ohio, Jason T. Bergeron, of Houghton, Michigan, Kerri L. Bergeron, of Grove City, Ohio; seven nieces, Teresa Montgomery, Cathy Martin, Patty Green, Melissa Weber, Linda Shipwash, Betty Bell, and Bobbie Dooley. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 30, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jerry Bell with the interment in the West End Cemetery. American Legion Post # 9 will conduct Military Graveside rites. Family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home, Friday, May 29, 2009, from 6 until 8 p.m. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Debbie, We are so sorry for the loss of Kenny, we did not know about it until a week after the services. We offer our sincere condolences and wish that we had known so we could have attended. There are so few of us left it is sad that we couldn't be there for you. I will remember his big smile always.
