Lewis Carlton (Collie) Aker, 80, of Rocky Mount, Va., died on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. He was a longtime employee of John W. Hancock and was a member and Deacon of Little Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Carlton was also a United States Marine Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. and Nellie Aker; and brothers, Galen Aker and William Aker. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Gladys Showalter Aker; son, David Aker and wife, Cathy; daughters, Debra Aker, Cheryl Powell and husband, David, and Sandra Hambrick and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, Chad Meadows and wife, Jessica, Kristi Schuster and husband, Shawn, Steven Meadows and wife, V.J., Doug Powell, and Amanda Hambrick; five greatgrandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Georgie Aker, Paul and Louise Aker, and Arthur "Bud" and Janet Aker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Webb, Kate Flora, Mary Wade and Carl Akers, and Carol and Ronald David; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010, with Elder Junior Conner and Elder W.T. Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Special thanks to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County for their care and concern.
