Margaret Smith Tear, 86, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson Rankin Smith and Gertrude Brillhart Smith Bryant; her husband, William (Bill) Eldridge Tear; and a sister, Mary Frances Smith Watkins. Surviving are her dear sister, Nell Smith Morris, of Roanoke; three nieces, Mary (Midge) Young Phillips, of Roanoke, Phyllis Young Hart and husband, Jim, of Goodview, and Valerie Morris Foley and husband, Bob, of Houston, Texas; one nephew, John Kendall (Ken) Morris and wife, Naomi, of Orange, Calif.; three great-nieces; four great- nephews; four great-great- nieces; and six great-great- nephews.

Margaret graduated from Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing and upon graduation, she worked in the OBGYN office of Dr. A.M. Groseclose for many years. She retired from the Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley, where she was a night supervisor. A founding member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Church, she served for many years in numerous capacities of the church, including the Altar Guild.

The Sung Requiem Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Church. The Reverend Father Paul Beutell will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Oakey's North Chapel.
