Melba Marie Stokes

Melba Marie Stokes, 87, of Salem, Va., passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010. She was born July 11, 1922, in Gary, W.Va., daughter of the late Joseph and Bessie Hill Tuell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John H. Stokes; and sons, Woodrow Canaday and Ricky Stokes. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Salem Church of Christ and worked as a manager for Toys-R-Us and Roses Department Store. She is survived by a son, Randy Canaday and wife, Anita; daughter, Shelby J. Stokes; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with the Rev. Mike Flinchum officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
