Merion Lorraine Macklin, 73, passed away, surrounded by her family, on February 28, 2013. She was preceded in death by her father, Norvell Richardson; sister, Shirley Hrobowski; brothers-in-law, Theodore W. Macklin Jr. and Buford Motley Sr.; sister- in-law, Barbara C. Motley; stepfather, George Journiette Sr.; and son, Robert E. Macklin Jr. Lorraine devoted her life to being a faithful servant of Jehovah God. She was a loving wife and soul mate to her husband, and gave unconditional love to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and close friends.
The Guest Book is expired.
She worked as a substitute teacher for Roanoke City Public Schools and was fondly admired for her sophisticated style as one of the many 'favorite' substitute teachers who welcomed you with a calming manner. Mrs. Lorraine Macklin inspired students by her humble spirit and beautiful presence and they became more motivated and inspired to learn.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert Macklin Sr.; mother, Lillie Mae Journiette, both of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Barbara Macklin, of Detroit, Mich.; brother-in-law, Harold (Thelma) Deane, of Petersburg; children, Sherree D. Marshall, Robin Macklin-Bratton, Terri Macklin, and Brian Macklin; grandchildren, Angela and Andre Marshall, Nicole, Jewel, Brandon and Dajah Macklin; great-grandchildren, Ahmaya, Abriyana, Aaliyah, and Malayja, all of Roanoke; and a host of close cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends from all over the world.
Our hearts are hurting but her message of peace and harmony on earth gave us a constant reminder of Jehovah's promise and the importance of standing on His Word. Lorraine is at peace and our lives are fuller because of her.
The family will greet and welcome friends and visitors to a theocratic celebration of her life at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, with the family visitation at 1:30 p.m. Condolences may be sent to www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.
