Myrtle Joan McKinney Munsey

Myrtle Joan (Joann) McKinney Munsey, 79, of Roanoke, Va., passed away September 9, 2009, at Roanoke Rehab Center. Mrs. Munsey was born on February 21, 1930, in Wyoming County, W.Va. and was a daughter of the late Lacy Preston McKinney and Myrtle Garretson McKinney. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel H. Munsey Jr.; a special friend, Billy G. Ramsey; a brother, Lacy Dale McKinney; and a sister, Willa Kennemur. Joann graduated from Bluefield College and worked for Celanese Corp. in Narrows for 10 years before becoming an entrepreneur, owning with her husband, Mike's Market in Pearisburg, and then the Skyline Motel in Roanoke Co. She retired at 53 and had a passion for her family, friends, fishing and late night card games. She is survived by her son, Michael H. and wife, Elise Campbell Munsey, of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Joanna Elise Munsey Merritt and her husband, Kevin, Daniel Preston Munsey and his wife, Alexandra; two greatgrandchildren, Lindsay and Alexander Merritt, all of Roanoke, Va.; and a sister, Joyce Bonner, of Rockville, Md. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Birchlawn Abbey from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday before the service.
