Myrtle Rector Obituary

Myrtle Mae Mason Rector, 87, of Front Royal, Va., passed peacefully on April 18, 2010, at Hidden Springs Senior Living in Bentonville. She was the wife of the late Ray M. Rector and the daughter of the late Olivia Hall-Pomeroy Mason and Joseph J. Mason. She was the last member of her immediate family. Myrtle graduated from Warren County High School in 1941. As a young woman, she worked at the American Viscose Plant. In 1982, after working 24 years in the Front Royal A & P Store, she retired. She was a life-long member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church where she was a member of The Marthas Circle. She was an avid bowler who also loved to cook, sew, and work in her yard. She is survived by twin daughters, Ann R. Megeath, of Clearbrook and Sue R. Sheets, of Roanoke; granddaughters, Allyson Megeath Hottle, of Winchester, Amy Sheets Greenway and Laurie S. Sheets, both of Roanoke; and one great-grandson, Ryan Greenway, of Roanoke. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Kathy Hawkins, Shirley Boyer, and Mable Adkins, all of Roanoke; brothers-in-law, Edward Harder of Anaheim, Calif., and Merle Barker, of Galax; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Front Royal United Methodist Church, 1 W. Main St., Front Royal, Va. 22630. Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., at Prospect Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Heaton officiating. A reception will follow in the Front Royal United Methodist Church fellowship hall.
