Patrica Sullivan Obituary

Patricia O'Grady Sullivan, of Roanoke, Va., and formerly of Covington, La., gracefully passed into Heaven on Saturday, April 10, 2010, after a valiant struggle with cancer. Waiting to welcome her home were her daughter, Kerry Anne Sullivan; and parents, Frederick and Helen O'Grady. Born on December 11, 1930, in Flushing, N.Y., Pat attended Finch College for Women in New York City and Parsons School of Design in Manhattan. Prior to marriage, Pat worked as a commercial artist in New York City for LIFE Magazine. Throughout her life, she proved to be a talented artist, and enjoyed the artistry in gardening, as well. Mostly, she loved all things related to golf.
In 1970, Pat and her family moved to the New Orleans area and settled into their beloved Tchefuncta Country Club. While there, Pat was a three time Ladies Golf Club Champion and an avid bridge player. After enjoying a full life in Louisiana, Pat came to Roanoke to be with her son, Chip, post-hurricane Katrina.
Pat spent her final days surrounded by family and friends at Friendship Retirement Community.
Living to carry on her legacy are daughter and son-in-law, Doreen Sullivan Garcia and Jimmy Garcia, of Anchorage, Alaska; son and daughter-inlaw, Chip and Kari Sullivan, of Troutville; beloved grandchildren, Kalley, Camryn, and Colby Sullivan, all of Troutville; and cousins, Dr. Hugh and Carolyn McGrath of Metarie, La., and Elizabeth Arrowsmith, of Enfield, England; as well as countless friends, especially Al and Katherine Amsler of Sewickley, Pa., and Art and Alda Cummings, of Long Island, N.Y.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Friendship Manor and Good Samaritan Hospice and all those who kept her in their thoughts and prayers. Arrangements are being handled by both Lotz Funeral home in Salem and EJ Fielding Funeral Home in Covington, La. A graveside service will be held at noon on Saturday, April 17, 2010, in Theodore Dedinger Memorial Cemetery in Madisonville, La. A celebration of Pat's life will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Friends Coastal Restaurant in Madisonville, La. Friends and family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke, Va.

Doreen Sullivan

April 18, 2010

My father always thought he would pass before my mother. When he heard of her slipping away, he talked of her for the next half day and then joined her in the hereafter. They will be buried together in Louisiana. I would like to thank Chip and Kari for coordinating all the efforts for Pat. Doreen Sullivan, Anchorage, AK
