Patricia Williams Obituary

Patricia Ann Williams of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Wert and Loretta S. Harris. She is survived by her husband, Frank Williams; her son, David Gordon and his wife, Amber Gordon and their children, Emily and Derrick; her daughter, Sarah "Ruthie" Williams; her stepson, Tony Williams and his daughter, Chelsea; her sisters, Sandra and her fiance, Colby Powell, of Roanoke and Paula Harris and husband, Eddie, of Willis; her niece, Retta Bertges and husband, Mike and their children, Carter and Kevin; nephew, Justin Harris and his children, Miranda and Andrew; and her special friends, Betty Higginbotham, Pete Haislip and Tobie McPhail. Pat was employed at MPS Corporation for 40 years. She worked there with her husband, Frank. So, they had the joy of being together both at home and at work.
To say that Pat touched the lives of many is an understatement. She is survived by many who love her. She was a devoted wife and adoring mother, dedicated daughter, loving sister, and loyal friend. Her kind and gentle nature was a constant comfort to the people in her life.
From spring through fall, you could find Pat standing behind home plate, cheering her daughter, Sarah "Ruthie" on as she pitched. She loved the sport of softball and more than that, she loved the players, and they loved her. As David was growing up, she showed the same dedication when David was on the field. Her support of her children was evident to all who knew Pat.
Pat spent her entire life expressing love to those in her life. She received that love and care in return from the staff of Carilion Roanoke Memorial 12 West and the Palliative Care Unit 10 South. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers there as well as the Carilion Hospice Staff. They would also like to express their gratitude to all her Scrappers' Family and Northside Vikings Family who gave their time and love to Pat and her family in their time of need.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel on Peters Creek Road. The memorial service will be on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 2011 Brandon Avenue, Roanoke, VA. with Pastor David Skole officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Pat's family is asking donations be made to The American Cancer Society. Arrangements by

I am so very sorry for your loss. I knew Pat from earlier years when my son was in high school-I think David and Ryan are close in age. I later ran into her at the cancer center where my husband was a patient at the same time and I would stop in her room down the hall. We kept in touch with cards and she had my husband in her prayers. She was such a beautiful and caring person. Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Bev Zambrello

David and Williams family so sorry for your loss. Pat was always smiling and cheering for David when I coached him in rec baseball as an 11 - 12 year old. She was always the most supportive parent on the team. Later after our boys got older, I always enjoyed talking to Pat as she walked around the neighborhood. We will truly miss her. She was a special person.

Ruthie was our star pitcher with the Outlaws Softball 10u team. We won the Commonwealth Games gold and played in many tournaments together. What a group of girls and parents we had back then. We had so much fun together. A great memory was a celebration we had at Burt Gallop's pool with the team after winning the Commonwealth games. I vividly remember Pat serving pizza, smiling, laughing and trying avoid getting wet while Bert, Frank, Pete Haslip & I tossed the girls around in the pool. She always smiled and loved watching Ruthie play softball. Look what can happen in 5 short years. While we are sad for the loss of Pat, she is walking the golden streets of heaven with a big smile.
