Reginald Powers Obituary

Reginald W. Powers, 85, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2010. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Witt Powers. During World War II he served in the United States Army as a combat infantryman in the 88th Infantry Division. He was retired from Kroger with 46 years of service. Mr. Powers was a member of the Bethany Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon, Elder and Trustee. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Judy Marie and Richard Sumner, of Greensboro, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Wayne and Judy Powers, and Glenn Russell and Kathy Powers, all of Roanoke; grandsons, Eric Wilson and Joseph Wilson and wife, Kylie, of Greensboro, Todd Powers and wife, Sara, Travis Powers, and Andrew Powers and wife, Amanda, of Roanoke; stepgrandchildren, Brian Dibble and wife, Christina and Amy Bryant and husband, Billy; greatgrandchildren, Kaylyn Bryant, Corey Powers, and Ava Powers; a special friend, Marie Carper; brother and sister-in-law, Oswald and Jane Powers, of Troutville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ailene and Calvin Witt, of Bedford, and Betty Jean and Ronald Watson, of Troutville; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial may be made to Bethany Christian Church, P.O. Box 5192, Roanoke, Va. 24012. Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Oakey's North Chapel. Pastor Matthew Ricks will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
