Richard McNutt Obituary

The Rev. Richard L. (Mac) McNutt, 93, of Roanoke, Va., died on Monday evening, April 19, 2010. He was born in Mason City, Iowa, on January 28, 1917, a son of the late Lee Anderson and Inez Lawrence McNutt. Rev. McNutt earned an Associates Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska and his Bachelor's Degree from Old Dominion University. He completed a course of study from Duke Divinity School. Rev. McNutt served in the United States Navy from 1934 to 1959, retiring with 25 years service. He entered the ministry in 1964 in the Virginia Conference and retired in 1984. Since his retirement, he served at Melrose United Methodist Church. He was a member of Webber High Twelve Masonic Lodge #282. Rev. McNutt was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Kingery McNutt; and is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lee F. and Carol A. McNutt, of Richmond; his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Jean and Colton L. Brooks Sr., of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren, Kelly McNutt Wells and husband, Brian, Lee Anderson McNutt and wife, Nicole, all of Richmond, C. Lohr Brooks Jr. and wife, Audrey, of Antioch, Tenn., and Darrell William Brooks and wife, Jeannette, of Virginia Beach; greatgrandchildren, Kayla Brooks, Zachary Brooks, Brody McNutt, Brad Wells, Josie Wells, Brian Brooks, Noah Brooks, Lucas Brooks and Alexis Ward; and his sister, Margaret Snyder, of Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010, at Fairview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald W. Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Samaritan Fund, VUMH, Inc., for the Roanoke Home in Rev. McNutt's memory. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 22, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.
