Sandy Scott Obituary

Published by Oakey’s South Chapel from Mar. 12 to Mar. 14, 2010.
Sandy Scott, 75, of Roanoke, Va., passed away to be with our heavenly Father on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Sandy, a native of Canada, was one of the most fearless leaders of his time in professional wrestling. Sandy grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. He began his career in wrestling at the age of 20, and with great determination and refined skill, he became one of the legendary "Flying Scott Brothers." Sandy wrestled professionally for Jim Crockett Promotions for 40 years, while during that time also moved to Roanoke, Va., with his family. After the birth of his daughter, Tracy, he then became a key front office executive for Jim Crockett, booking towns and venues, heading TV Ad's and keeping a lucrative business thriving. He also worked for Ted Turner after the sell out of Jim Crockett Promotions. He promoted for over 20 years and then started to slow down after the birth of his grandson, Coleton, in 1997.
Sandy's passion in life and what he most thrived from was being around people and sharing his infectious personality with others. He proved this during his wrestling career by mingling with his fans and signing autographs. He was never to proud to take time to thanks his fans for their support. Sandy was quite a jokester and to this day, we will all remember how he entertained us. Sandy was a "salt of the earth" guy and a real "class act."
Sandy Scott was not only a wonderful husband, an amazing father, and incredible grandfather, but also a man of wisdom, strength, and courage. He was an elite athlete as well as a remarkable mentor. He pursued his dreams and was very successful. He was a man of simple pleasures. Most of all, he was a powerful fighter, not only in the ring, but with his tremendous battle with pancreatic cancer. His unprecedented legend will continue to carry on and his fight and tenacity will touch may others and their strength to battle cancer.
Sandy was inducted into the Low-country Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1998 in a ceremony at the former county hall, then known as the King Street Place, and into the NWA Legends Hall of Heroes in 2008 in Charlotte.
Sandy was also very proud to be a Mason with the Electric Lodge No. #495 in the Province of Ontario.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife, Sandra Scott; his daughter, Tracy Scott; and his grandson, Coleton Frye.
We would like to thank all of our family and friends for their continued support and prayers.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010, at Westhampton Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Crockett officiating. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Ave. from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to We Care of Franklin County, P.O. Box 396, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151 or to The Dave Lamanca Golf Scholarship Inc., P.O. Box 1246, Salem, Va. 24153. [email protected]

As I watched RAW tonight and watched Shawn Michaels retire from a 25 year career in wrestling......I have a great saddness come over me, oh I was sad Shawn was retiring but what I was really sad about the most was I wanted to reach for the phone and call someone that I called almost every week after something special happened on wrestling but remembered I couldn't :( that someone was my good friend "Sandy Scott", I really miss him at these times the most, but you need to know he didn't say I was one of his friends.......He would always call me "His Pal", before he hung up he would say 'Take care of yourself Pal"........Sandy R.I.P.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Sandy was a true professional and tribute to the wrestling business. I have all the respect in the world for him. He went out of his way to make sure each event he ran was tip top. Each event was run with perfection and respect for the talent involved. It was my pleasure and honor to have called him a friend and to have been around him during my career. He was always there to lend a helping hand or encouraging word.

My family and I will remember him and his family in this time of sorrow.

God bless.

March 15, 2010

My family and I are greatly sorrowed to hear about the passing of wrestling great Sandy Scott. I followed Sandy's career from Jim Crockett promotions to the nwa. His brother George was his tagteam partner and also were the Canadian tagteam champions. They were my favorite wrestlers. This was back in the day when Johnny Weaver, Paul Jones, Ronnie Garvin, Johnny Valentine, Minnesota recking crew, super destroyer, two ton Harris and many more wrestled at the star land arena.
I had the opportunity a few years ago to meet Sandy and Sandra Scott at a restaurant at a roanoke mall. And also his daughter Tracy at a later time. That particular meeting has made an lasting impression on my life. And also gave me a great deal of satisfaction in my personal life. Sandy will be truly missed by our family. Our prayers now are with Sandra, Tracy And Coleton to help guide them through this time of hardship.
I would just like to say, thank you Sandy for the inspiration that you gave me as a young child. Godspeed.

A truly devoted fan

If it wasn't for Sandy Scott, I would have never found my compass as a professional wrestler or as a business man. More than a pure genious inside the ring and in the office, Sandy was truly one of the great people God placed on this Earth. I'm still fighting the good fight, keep your television tuned in from up there in Hevan. Things are about to heat up down here.

Gone but not forgotten

Today we lost a dear great friend,
for God has taken Sandy Scott to the promised land,
of nothing but happiness and golden streets,
man oh man what a miraculous feat,
he may have lost the battle but he won the war,
of everlasting life forever more,
I'm sure he's up there just flying around,
while we all mourn his loss here on the ground,
we may think we lost him on this very day,
but if it was up to me I think I would say,...
today is the day to remember a great guy,
who would never let a moment with great friends pass him by,
although i believe we all would love to see him once more,
walking that aisle to the ring on that arena floor,
so with that being said I'll have no fear.
because I know in my heart that he is still here,
and from this day forth when I step in that ring,
I'll remember those words of wisdom he'd sing,
" go out there and give those fans what they have paid for,
give it your all and i can ask nothing more."

March 13, 2010

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

one of my fond memories of childhood was going to wrestling matches at wdbj and victory stadium. that was the good old days wrestlers like Sandy and George Scott, Johnny Weaver, Haystack Calhun any the many more greats of the past. It was a time when you didn't mind taking your kid to watch the matches. Oh for those days to return but alas decent wrestlers like Sandy are no more and he will be sorely miss by all who remember him. May God Bless and comfort the family left to cherish his memory.

It was my esteem pleasure to have worked with Sandy. He was always very considerate of his customers and never had an ill word towards anyone. He was the "gentle giant" that went out of his way to help others. I remember a delivery driver that ask me once "was that who I thought it was?" I ask him who did he think it was and he told me "Sandy Scott, my Dad took me to see the Scott brothers when I was a boy" I called Sandy over to meet him. Sandy shook his hand, they chatted awhile and I noticed the admiration on that man's face when he got to meet Sandy. I pray that his family will continue to be blessed and comforted.

Later in years i spoke with Sandy Scott @ Lewis Gale Cinlic and had several converstaions about his and Georges career. He was a such a gentleman and would always take a few minutes when I taked with him at the LG Clinic during his delieveries. i always thought Sandy was the one that carried the tag team for many years..
