Susan Leftwich Thomas

Susan Leftwich Thomas, 84, of Salem, Va., passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sale Leftwich, her sister, Adelaide Leftwich Angle, and her brother, Richard Sale Leftwich, Jr. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Campbell Thomas; her children, Julia Thomas Arthur and her husband Michael, Joseph Campbell Thomas, Jr. and his wife Leigh; grandchildren, Laura Campbell Cannaday, of Washington, DC, Lesley Catherine Arthur, Michael Thomas Arthur, Joseph Campbell Thomas III, and John Blakely O'Brien Thomas. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Salem on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 4 p.m. conducted by the Reverend Michael Houff. The family would like to thank the staff of "The Oaks" at Richfield and the nursing staff of 6 West at Lewis Gale Hospital for their many kindnesses.
