Thurman Eugene Nicely

Thurman Eugene (Gene) Nicely, 78, of Natural Bridge Station, Va., went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2009. He was born June 26, 1930, in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Harry S. and Gertie Nicely. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lindy and Clyde Nicely; and a sister, Masil Black. He worked at James Lees, Burlington, and Mohawk for 48 years and was a veteran of the Korean War. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Nicely; two daughters, Sheree Austin and husband, Tommy, and Sue Witt, all of Natural Bridge Station; one son, Devin Nicely and life partner, Dale Taylor, of Buena Vista; one sister, Alleta Hall, of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Thomas Witt and fiancée, Kasey Powell, Shannon Witt, Little Devin, Robert, Patrick Nicely, Willard Hill and fiancée, Charlotte Taylor, and John Hill and wife, Krissy; one great-grandson, Ethan Hill; nephew, Alan Black; and two stepgrandchildren, Davey Austin and Betty Jo Austin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, Va. 22901. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009, at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va.
