Tommy Calvin Rankin Jr.

Tommy Calvin Rankin Jr., 58, of Max Meadows, Va., passed away on Monday, April 12, 2010. He was born on April 1, 1952, and was preceded in death by his father, Thomas C. Rankin Sr.; a brother, Herbert Eugene Rankin; a sister, Judy Ann Rankin; and grandparents, George and Murdy Tetter and Robert and Myrtle Rankin. Tommy drag raced at Elk Creek and Motor Mile Raceway and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He is survived by his wife, Patty F. Rankin, of the home; four daughters, Kayla R. Ward and Kevin D., of Max Meadows, Va., Jessica R. Hash and Travis B., of Independence, Va., Heather M. Rankin, of Wytheville, Va., and Pam Midkiff and Thomas "Mike," of Wytheville, Va.; grandchildren, Kristen Diane Midkiff, Emily Dawn Midkiff, Kaylee Elizabeth Ward and Kameron Douglas Ward; his mother, Mabel Tetter Rankin, of Blacksburg, Va.; two sisters, Ruth and Dewey Ball, of Cedar Bluff, Va., and Mary Jane and Cecil Jarrett, of Blacksburg, Va.; one brother, Eddie Charles Rankin, of Max Meadows, Va.; and motherin-law, Margaret Virginia Fisher, of Max Meadows, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010, at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kent Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, April 15, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
