Watkins Gills Obituary

Watkins Leftwich Gills, 87, of Bedford, Va., passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of the Elks National Home. He was born on Monday, July 17, 1922, in Bedford Co., Va., a son of the late Hubert Aubrey Gills and Mary Ruth Leftwich Gills. In addition to his father and mother, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Billy M. Gills. He was a retired employee of the Rubatex Corporation, was a member of Elks Lodge # 2844, American Legion Post # 54, and Bedford Church of God. He was a Unites States Army veteran having served in World War II. Surviving is his wife of 26 years, Cornelia May "Doris" Musselman Gills; a stepson, Lynwood Epperly and wife, Carolyn, of Roanoke; a stepdaughter, Linda Webber and husband, Roger, of Bedford; four stepgrandchildren; four stepgreatgrandchildren. The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Elks National Home, 931 Ashland Avenue, Bedford, Va. 24253. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. K. B. Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call Monday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
