William Leffue Obituary

William H. (Bill) Leffue, 75, of Boones Mill, Va., passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Lewis Gale Medical Center. Bill was known for his love and care of the earth and all it provided. He was never happier than when he could be outside working in the garden, the beautiful woods that surrounded his home, or planting flowers. This love of helping living things to grow and blossom carried over to his family, especially his grandchildren. He always made each and every one of them feel special. He was never too busy to talk with them and spend time with them. He always let them know just how special they were to him. Bill never met a child who didn't fall, instantly, in love with him. He was "Uncle Bill" to everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woody and Cyrilla Leffue; and his brother, Tommy Leffue. He is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 52 years. Survivors also include two daughters and sons-inlaw, Nina and David Valdivieso, of Suffolk, Va., and Julia and Karl Heck, of West Lawn, Pa.; six grandchildren, David Anthony Valdivieso, Cristina Valdivieso, James Valdivieso, Cali Marie Valdivieso, Sarah Heck and Daniel Heck; his sister, Betty Garraghty and her husband, Ashley, of Salem, Va.; sisterin-law, Mabel Leffue, of Boones Mill, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Flora Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Compton and the Rev. Stewart Royce officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Boones Mill Christian Church Youth Camp Fund or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Flora Funeral & Cremation Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.

He was, indeed, "Uncle Bill" to everyone. You would have to search far and wide to find a better man than Bill. I fondly remember fishing with Bill and Dad over the course of many, many summers at Smith Mountain Lake when I was a young man. There isn't a thing in the world Bill wouldn't have to for me if I had asked. I'll miss him greatly.
