Willilam J. Handy

Mr. William J. (Bill) Handy, 71, of Franklin County, Virginia and Warner Robins, Ga., passed away Friday, April 2, 2010. Bill was married to the former Janet Smith, of Martinsville, Va. Mr. Handy was born on May 3, 1938 to the late Mr. James Andrew and Hattie (Via) Handy. Bill was a retired plant manager and supervisor for Bassett Furniture for over 40 years, and U.S. Army National Guard veteran, attended Andrew United Methodist Church. He is survived by Mrs. Janet Handy, of Warner Robins, Ga.; brothers, Randolph (Peggy) Handy, of Danville, Va., Lynwood (Linda) Handy, of Martinsville, Va., Roger Handy and Harold "Hillbilly" (JeRena) Handy, both of Rocky Mount, Va.; mother-in-law, Hazel Zeigler, of Martinsville, Va.; sisters-in-law, Susan Z. (Dewey) Knight, of Collinsville, Va., Joyce Z. (Terrell) Odell, of Fieldale, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation in Georgia will be held Monday, April 5, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, Warner Robins, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010 with the Rev. Bill Moss officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Handy's name to the Shirley and Billy Weir Scholarship Foundation, 7804 Eagles Landing Court, Columbus, GA 31909.
