Almyra Burrow Obituary

Almyra Virginia Beazley Burrow, 90, of Salem, Va., passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Capt. John Wesley Burrow. She is also survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Lynn Burrow, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and Richard and Janet Burrow, of Roanoke. Mrs. Burrow is also survived by nine grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and her devoted friend, Mattie Mann. Almyra Burrow spent her childhood in Prince George County, Va., the daughter of Latimer and Bertha Beazley. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Joyce Hawthorne. Mrs. Burrow spent her life making a home for her beloved husband and her two sons as they moved from community to community during her husband's 34-year career with the Virginia State Police. She was also employed as a teacher and bank teller. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Salem for 48 years. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 16, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, Va. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son with Dr. D. Michael Houffe and the Rev. Bobby Pickle officiating. Interment will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010, in the Burrow Family Cemetery in Newville, Va. Memorial gifts may be given to First United Methodist Church, 125 W. Main Street, Salem, Va. 24153 or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the many friends and church members who supported Almyra and her family during her illness.
