Billie Waddell Huddle, 102, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012. She was a native of Wythe County, daughter of the late Dexter Clauton and Mattie Sutherland Waddell. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Huddle Jr. She attended school in Wytheville, Virginia Intermont College, Florida State University, and did post graduate work at the University of Florida and Florida Atlantic University, holding degrees in Elementary Education and Library Science.

Mrs. Huddle was employed by the Palm Beach County, Fla. School System for 23 years.
In 1968, due to the death of her husband, Stephen G. Huddle, she retired from the school system and returned to Virginia to care for her mother until her death in 1972. She was a charter member of the First Methodist Church in Indiantown, Fla., where she served as organist for many years. She was a member of Unity Chapter 31 Order of the Eastern Star at Stuart, Fla. She served many years as a volunteer of the Wythe County Community Hospital and the Red Cross. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Bill W. Huddle, of Florida; daughter-in-law, Barbara Huddle, of Charleston, S.C.; six grandchildren; and a host of loving great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Mt. Pleasant UMC Cemetery, with the Reverend Joe Mack Taylor officiating.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church or Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 600 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, VA 24382.
