June 2, 1947-March 24, 2013 Roger Arthur Douglas, known to his friends as "Yankee" or big "Yank", of Hillsville, passed away at Lewis Gale Hospital in Blacksburg of liver cancer at the age of 65.

Roger's father, Urban Ray Douglass, mother, Vira Baker Douglass, and brother, Wally Dawson Kienast, preceded him in death.
Roger is survived by his brother, John Emerson Douglass; sister-in-law, Veronica VanNess Douglass; nephew, Robert Charles VanNess, of Hillsville; and niece, Wendy Kienast, of Bedford. Other survivors include his brother, Ray Douglass; sister-in-law, Leona Douglass; nephew, Ray Douglass Jr.; and niece, Denise Fitzgerald.
Roger enlisted and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War as a Construction Mechanic from January 16, 1969 to May 18, 1972, at which time he received an Honorable Discharge. During his service he received the following decorations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
His passions after returning home were his family, motorcycle riding, and the local UAW 2069. He worked for the Volvo Truck plant in Dublin for 33 years, from which he retired in 2010. He participated in numerous charity motorcycle rides including, but not limited to, rides to the Veteran's Memorial Wall and for the MDA Foundation.
Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, after which Roger will be cremated and his ashes will be taken back to his Hillsville home.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Vaughan Guynn McGrady Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Vaughan Guynn McGrady Chapel with Military Rites by the Hillsville V.F.W.
