Nancy Storer Hicks, of Southwest Roanoke County, claimed the promise of the Resurrection on Monday, April 8, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was married to the late William F. Hicks for 56 years, and was an extremely devoted wife and mother. Her love of her church, Windsor Hills United Methodist, of which she had been a member since 1961, was second only to her love of her family. Nancy was born in Cumberland, Md. on May 26, 1932, the second child of William C. and Nellie K. Storer. Her family moved to Narrows in 1939, where she lived until moving to Roanoke to attend National Business College. It was while a student at NBC that she met her beloved Bill, and they married in 1952.
The Guest Book is expired.
In additional to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her brother, William C. Storer Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah L. Hicks, of Virginia Beach; her son, William (Fred) Hicks and his wife, Zona, of Midlothian; grandson, Justin A. Hicks and wife, Breanne and their children, Jackson and Fields, of Midlothian; and grandson, Bryan P. Hicks, of Midlothian.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Oakey's South Chapel at 4257 Brambleton Ave. A Celebration of Life Service for family and friends, led by the Reverends Thomas Lee and Branan Thompson, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at Windsor Hills UMC, located at 3591 Windsor Road. A reception will follow. Interment will be private.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the physicians who provided care as her health declined, Drs. Gary Glontz, Timothy Hormel, Paul Lenkowski, David Buck, William Magdycyz, and William Fintel. They also wish to thank the Good Samaritan Hospice staff and care providers, Liz Lilly, Marie Maddox, Carole Denney, and Eloise Bowman, whose care and companionship made it possible for her to remain at home her last days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Windsor Hills UMC, or the Good Samaritan Hospice at 3408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.
