McDowell, Ancie
Ancie Dale McDowell HOPE MILLS — It is with great sadness and sorrow to announce the passing of Ancie Dale Sampson McDowell. She departed this world on Aug. 30, 2015, at the age of 73 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Her family was by her side. She was the devoted daughter of Newton and Vilena Sampson. Ancie was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, David, Mark, Stinson, Grady, James and Ervin Sampson, Verla B. Mancini, Patricia Milesko, Betty Wereski and Linda Corey. Ancie Dale was born in Pembroke on March 11, 1942. She graduated from Magnolia High School, lettering in basketball and was a vital part of the 1956 NC State Championship team. Ancie was an avid sports fan and college basketball was her favorite sport by far. She was one of the most dedicated and loyal UNC basketball fans ever. Her blood truly was Carolina Blue. In the later years Ancie took up bowling and she was a "natural." She was a member of many winning regional travel bowling teams. The only thing Ancie enjoyed more than bowling on the travel team was bowling with her sons and grandchildren where she showed "no mercy." Both strikes on the bowling lanes and loving her family and friends came very easy for Ancie. Ancie is survived by her sons, Blake Hunt, Blane Hunt, Jimmy Dale Hunt and Freddie McDowell Jr.; her five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Ancie is also survived by five siblings, Minnie Holmes, Monnie Gray, Lillian Grasham, Carol Norris and Henry Sampson. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Revels Funeral Home Chapel, 3575 N. Roberts Ave., Lumberton, N.C. The family will be receiving visitors beginning at 2 p.m. before the funeral service at the same location. The Rev. Ronald Locklear will be officiating. Interment will follow at Deep Branch Cemetery in Lumberton.
