Rosie Locklear Moore

MAXTON — Rosie Mae Locklear Moore, 82, of the Prospect Community was born to the late James I. and Addie Harris Locklear on May 10, 1931, and departed this life to continue service to our lord on Oct. 14, 2013, at her home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Prospect United Methodist Church, the Revs. Dr. Kenneth Locklear and Dr. Robert Mangum officiating. Burial will follow in Moore family cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Luther Harbert Moore; her dearest friend, Inez Bullard Chavis; a sister, Loraine Hunt; four brothers, Stacy Locklear, Lacie Locklear, Glassie Locklear and James "Buddy" Locklear Jr.; her mentor, Carrie Moore Dial; and a special family member, Carl " Pea Rooney" Locklear.

Mrs. Moore leaves behind her daughter, Barbara Melvin of Red Springs; four sons, Harvard Anthony "Jed" Moore of the home, Luther Byron "Shorty" Moore and wife Johanna of Prospect, James Steven Moore and wife Susan of Prospect, and Harbert Edwin "Eddie" Moore and wife Tyra of Wakulla; two sisters, Cattie Mae Hunt of Pembroke, and Doretha Lloyd of Norfolk, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a stepmother; Zula Locklear; special family members, Richard Moore and Larry Bullard; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends who all loved her dearly.

Mrs. Moore was a dedicated member of Prospect United Methodist Church, a retired teacher assistant from Prospect School, former tobacco farmer, and above all, a devoted and loving Christian mother and grandmother.

The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thompson's Funeral Home in Pembroke.
