Elizabeth Matthis Brown

RED SPRINGS — Mrs. Elizabeth Matthis Brown, 85, of Red Springs, died July 16, 2014, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Red Hill Universalist Church.

Mrs. Brown was born in Sampson County on May 26, 1929, to the late Byrant Newkirk Matthis and Manie Clyde Knowles Matthis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neill Shaw Brown.

Mrs. Brown was a public school teacher of 34 years in Sampson and Robeson County schools before retiring. She was an active lifelong member and former moderator of Red Hill Universalist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Brown Evans of Red Springs; a grandson, Patrick Chrisjohn Evans III of Red Springs; a sister, Anita Ann Matthis Merritt of Wilmington; several special cousins, nieces and nephews, many lifelong friends; and her recliner buddy, Rufus.

The visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave., Raeford, and 9 a.m. Saturday at Red Hill Universalist Church, 7031 Taylor's Bridge Highway Clinton, N.C., 28328.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Hill Universalist Church 7031 Taylor's Bridge Highway, Clinton, N.C, 28328.
