LUMBERTON — Avender Ray Collins, 81, of Orrum, was born on Jan. 26, 1933, and departed this life to be with the Lord on Feb. 3, 2014.
The funeral will be 7:30 p.m. today at the Broad Ridge Baptist Church, the Revs. Mike Longson, James Graham and Jim Seamen officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Broad Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
He was a lifetime farmer, loved fishing, was a past member of Britt's Volunteer Fire Department, and a former deacon of Broad Ridge Baptist Church.
Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his father, Kelly Collins and his mother, Nola Stone Collins; his brother, Jessie, and sisters, Annie, Lettie, Ila, and Gladys; a son, Danny Ray Collins, and a daughter, Donna Collins.
He leaves behind his wife of nearly 63 years, Helen Collins; his sons, Ronald Collins (Dianne) and Kenny Collins (Terri); a daughter, Linda Britt (Kenny) and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Collins, all of Lumberton; six grandchildren, Ken Collins (Stephanie), Ray Collins (Kim), Danielle Bordeaux (Archie), Amber Ferrell, (Jason), Sable Branch (Cody), and Maranda Collins; five great-grandchildren, Kaileigh, Jaden, Lily, Danny and Danica; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broad Ridge Baptist Church, 949 Broadridge Road, Orrum, N.C., 28369.
The visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today before the service at the church, and at other times at the home of Avender and Helen.
