LUMBERTON — Betty Baxley Newton, 83, of Lumberton, passed away on Nov. 20, 2013, at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. She was born on Jan. 16, 1930, in Bladen County to the late Walter Clayton Baxley and the late Beulah McLaughlin Baxley.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at East Lumberton Church of God, Dr. Bruce Brumfield and the Rev. L.F. Hatchell officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John E. Newton; a daughter, Deborah Carter Davenport; a son, Larry Newton; and her grandson, Jonathan Rhodes.
Mrs. Newton is survived by two sons, Johnnie Newton and Jim Newton and his wife Janet, all of Lumberton; two daughters, Karen Britt and her husband Joey of Salisbury, and Beth Kinlaw and her husband Billy of Lumberton; six grandchildren, Tracy Newton, Sean B. Davidson, Ginny Bray, Meagan Hendren, Holli Britt and Kristen Kinlaw; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bray and Luke and Logan Hendren; and several sisters.
The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, 809 E. Fifth St., Lumberton.
