Billy Hunt

WILMINGTON — Mr. Billy Ray Hunt, 63, 5917 Saltee Way, Wilmington, was born on Sept. 12, 1950, in Robeson County to the late Mr. Russell Hunt and the late Mrs. Velma Revels Hunt.

A homegoing service for Mr. Billy Ray Hunt will be held at 4 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home, Hardin's Chapel, Red Springs. Interment with military rites will follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Rennert, the Rev. Tommy Gist officiating.

Billy departed this earthly life to eternal rest on May 11, 2014, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center in Wilmington.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Ray Hunt; and stepfather, Howard Butler.

Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Vietnam Campaign Metal w/60 Device. He was a warrior for his people and his country.

He leaves loving memories with his wife, Sylvia Hunt of the home; three sons, Norman Clore, Clarence Clore, and Paul Johnson, all of Wilmington; four sisters, Shirley Dunn of Laurinburg, Joyce Larsen Lord of Waterville, Maine, Cathy Hutchins of Scarborough, Maine, and Carolyn Cooper of Ashville; a sister-in-law, Cindy Hunt; a special nephew, Anthony Hunt; a special niece, Michelle Hall; a son, William Jenkins of Vassalboro, Maine; five grandchildren, Sarah, Sylvia, Norman Joseph, C.J. and Cameron; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relative and friends. Special thanks to the Lumbee Veterans/ Alton Locklear and the Lumbee Tribal Council.

The family received friends on May 12, 2014, at Heritage Funeral Home in Red Springs.
