MAXTON — James A. Jones WWII Veteran, 91, of Prospect Community, was born Aug. 15, 1922, and departed this life on Aug. 15, 2013, at his home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Prospect United Methodist Church, the Revs. Bill James Locklear, Dr. Robert Mangum, Dr. Kenneth Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pearlie M. Chavis Jones; his parents, McKinley Jones Sr. and Rosie Bell McMillian Jones; a stepmother, Zelma Sampson Jones; three sisters, Essie Mae Oxendine, Margaret Clark and Dr. Mary E. Jones Brayboy; and eight infants siblings.
James A. Jones was a Robeson County teacher and principal at Prospect School for many years. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church and a Sunday School Teacher for 42 years.
James A. Jones leaves to cherish his memories his sons, James (Jimmy) A. Jones Jr. (Lori) of Dillion, S.C.; two daughters, Kathy J. Williams of Cary, and Dr. Alfreda Jones (William) of McLean, Va.; five grandchildren, Brittni, William, Andrew, Caroline and Matthew; a brother, McKinley Jones Jr. of Maxton; two sisters, Emma Bell Locklear of Red Springs, and Artie M. Jacobs of Wakulla; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and respected him.
The visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Prospect United Methodist Church.
