Jessie Mae Mitchell
LUMBERTON — Jessie Mae Mitchell, 101, was born Sept. 23, 1912, departed this earthly home and went to her heavenly home on April 4, 2014.
The celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Ashpole Center United Methodist Church, the Revs. Bill James Locklear, Dufrene Cummings, Harold Hunt, George Locklear and Marshall Locklear officiating. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
Ms. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Carson Mitchell Sr.; her parents Thomas F. Spaulding and Rella Locklear Spaulding; a brother, George Spaulding and three sisters, Mary Jane Scott, Mabel Dial and Madis Spaulding; and a granddaughter, Cynthia Mae Hamby.
Ms. Jessie is survived by her four sons, James V. Mitchell (Brenda) of North Wilkesboro, Carson Mitchell Jr. (Faye), Vernard Mitchell (Louise), both of Lumberton, and Bobby Mitchell (Shelby) of Rowland; five daughters, Lois Lowry of Pembroke, Frances Sanderson of Fairmont, Linda Hunt of Pembroke, Elizabeth Ann Oxendine (Monty) of Lumberton, and Brenda Kay Maynor of Pembroke; a brother, Thomas F. Spaulding Jr. of Lumberton; a special adopted son, Donald Bruce Oxendine of Lumberton; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at Revels Funeral Home Lumberton.
